Portland Art Museum Senior Leadership at the Opening of the Rothko Pavilion

Portland Art Museum Senior Leadership at the Opening of the Rothko Pavilion

Assignment:  Portraits of Karie Burch, Donald Urquhart and Gareth Nevitt

at the opening of the new Rothko Pavilion, Portland Art Museum, November, 2025.

Location:  Grand Pavilion Gallery, Rothko Pavilion, Portland Art Museum.

Highlights:  It was former Museum Director Brian Ferriso’s original vision that inspired the Rothko Pavilion. Thirteen years in the making,  the 100,000 square foot remodel was envisioned to be the Museum’s new “cultural commons,“ powerfully connecting the Portland community with art, and with each other.

This November, the vision became reality.  Adding a glistening architectural gem between older museum buildings, the Pavilion’s new glass atrium has been compared with the Louvre’s iconic pyramid.  The atrium encloses the Grand Pavilion Gallery,  creating a focal point for a revitalization of downtown Portland, and a stage for new generations of artists who will fill the space with their own visions and stories.

Standing in the Grand Pavilion Gallery, Co-interim Directors Karie Burch (Chief Development Officer): Donald Urquhart (Director of Collections and Exhibitions): and Gareth Nevitt (Chief Financial Officer) pose on November 12, just before the Rothko Pavilion opened to the public.  ##
